Feel Well.
Chiropractic care is about repairing musculoskeletal health by stimulating the central nervous system. Improving the central nervous system's communication allows the body to receive the benefits of enhanced immune function, energy, digestion, reduced inflammation, range of motion, balance, and sleep.
APPLIED
KENESIOLOGY
Kinesiology is an anatomical science that focuses on treating connective tissue, joints, muscles, and tendons – the science of muscular and skeletal movement. Kinesiology views the body as machinery controlled by a complex computer – the brain – which constantly communicates with the hundreds of muscles and other tissues throughout the body. In addition to looking at the structural side of the body, it looks at emotional and chemical aspects of the body as well because each of these factors influences the body. When one of these three areas becomes off-balanced, the other will try to compensate. Healthy muscles are balanced; unhealthy, overstressed muscles are imbalanced and weak. Kinesiology aims to maintain balance or address the potential imbalance within the body. Applied Kinesiology takes these principles and uses them to assess the health of the body and come up with a custom treatment plan. Each muscle group is related to a specific organ within the body, and muscle weakness and strength can reveal imbalances. By muscle testing, the chiropractor can know how best to treat a subluxation and confirm that any misalignments within the body are corrected. Applied Kinesiology is also used to assess posture, gait, and range of motion.
EXTREMITY
This technique focuses on joint fixation to align, enhance, restore, and instill a range of motion back to the body's extremities (elbows, wrists, fingers, toes, knees, shoulders). This technique is another way that chiropractic care utilizes various adjustment and manipulation styles to bring balance to the body. Athletes and those looking for general wellness benefit from these adjustments because they reduce pain and restore range of motion and comfort to areas of the body that are often overlooked. The body moves as a whole, so it is essential to address the body as a whole! When the body is not moving correctly, it subjects the spine to undue stress that can lead to undue injury and unnecessary wear and tear on spinal discs and joints, as well as muscle tissues, ligaments, and nerves. There may be discomfort or pain in the elbow, but the real issue may be misalignment in the shoulder or pain in the knee, which is the result of big toe dysfunction. Lower back pain may be linked to the feet due to the arch in the foot dropping and causing the bones in the leg to rotate, putting pressure on the hips and lower back. By adjusting the source of the discomfort, nerve flow may increase.
PRENATAL
During pregnancy, there can be discomfort and pregnancy-related pain on the spine and pelvis. Receiving chiropractic care during pregnancy is a safe and gentle treatment for mom and baby to address many of the physical complaints that may be experienced during pregnancy. Prenatal chiropractic focuses more on pelvic alignment to help ensure there is plenty of room for the baby to grow and invert but also to help with labor and delivery. There is also evidence that women who regularly visit a chiropractor for pregnancy may have a 25% shorter labor (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2647084/. By improving the pelvic muscle functions and nervous system interference, any unnecessary tension on the uterus can be aligned and may allow the baby to get in the best possible position for birth. Chiropractic care can be received throughout the pregnancy and is important to create a well-balanced pelvic floor. Dr. Jessica is Webster-certified and can discuss and assess any imbalances that could create pain and discomfort.
SPINAL DECOMPRESSION
A traction table is used to stretch the spine and is a non-invasive treatment. This nonsurgical form of decompression therapy is performed with the goal of relieving pain and providing an optimal stretch that creates a healing environment for herniating, bulging, or degenerating discs. A compressed spine limits blood flow to the affected area, which decreases oxygen to the area and limits nutrients. By gently stretching the spine, the body can make or re-gain space between the vertebrae helping the back discs reshape and re-hydrate. In addition, it provides relief for pinched nerves. After undergoing multiple decompression sessions, a vacuum-like effect is created on the discs, revitalizing circulation and sending hydration to the area, which in turn pushes the discs back into a healthy shape.
WELLBEING
The body is under continual stress (both physically and emotionally). It is important to maintain balance in order to help the body function optimally. Even though chiropractic can help with pain relief and injuries, it is just as important to see a chiropractor for wellbeing care. Just like maintenance is done on your car quarterly, the body deserves the same type of care in order to maintain balance and improve immune function - even general wellbeing!
